I'chiliad always so nervous trying dishes without reviews! But I just thought this sounded skilful. And it IS good, so that was a relief. I didn't have sherry, but I looked up a substitution chart and information technology said I could use orangish juice or pineapple juice. Just I didn't have those either! So I looked up aNOTHER chart and it told me I could utilise vanilla extract! So I did (i tsp for the i tbsp sherry). And the gravy just smelled then adept. And thickened upwards wonderfully. All in all, a corking, easy dish. Only serve over rice! :)

This doesn't apply to this recipe specifically, but I am sick and tired of reading bad reviews from people who haven't fifty-fifty tried the recipe. Every cook tweaks a recipe a bit, but to give it a bad review? As well much time on their easily. Let'south see some of THEIR recipes!

this recipe is excellent every bit is. Delight, people....review the recipe as it is, and rate it every bit it is!! Adding or changing the ingredients alters the recipe, and therefore is not a truthful rating of the original recipe.

We loved this recipe, thank you! I used French Onion soup instead of the beef broth, and would highly recommend using ground Angus for the beef. The flavor is wonderful, thanks!
02/x/2011
This was VERY yummy!!! As e'er, I made the recipe EXACTLY as it is and I have to say I owuldn't change a affair.
09/08/2006
Good recipe, but using fresh herbs and spices really helps...fresh grated garlic, minced onions or grated onion, fresh cracked pepper etc. really makes a big departure...a little chopped parsley too adds something.
03/09/2006
These were groovy! I decided to follow another user'southward directions and add together a splash of red wine vinegar (in place of the sherry that I didn't take) and information technology pretty much ruined the gravy beyond belief. Don't use vinegar! I luckily had an instant brownish gravy mix that I whipped up last minute. Thank God you have to remove the meat or else it would take been ruined also! The way I saved information technology was great and I ate it on top of white rice.
09/02/2006
Thanks, Anne, for a wonderful recipe. It is definitely a keeper. Every bit others have suggested, do double the gravy. My hubby did the cooking outside in an electrical skillet. Couldn't have been better!
09/10/2006
We just loved this! I did double the gravy and used a tin can of onion soup, mmmm mmmm good! I used rice but next fourth dimension I make this I will make information technology with mashed potatoes, this is the best gravy! hum!

Added couple cloves fresh garlic & half box of fresh mushrooms--threw them in food processor with the onion so they would mix with the meat amend. Instead of beefiness broth used half a large container of mushroom broth and small container of french onion soup(non dry mix) to make the gravy. Then added rest of mushrooms and a sliced onion, put the lid on and permit the whole matter simmer. Adding some sour cream to gravy just before serving with noodles makes is good too. I buy the mushroom broth and the French onion soup at the health food store or in health food section of grocery. Most of my family are addicted to mushrooms so the goop is used in everything but dessert.

This is one of the best recipes I've made off this site! Information technology was so good that really no changes were needed to make information technology family pleasing. The meat was perfectly seasoned and tender, and it was really like shooting fish in a barrel to brand. The but changes I fabricated were to fry the patties in nonstick cooking spray instead of all the oil (the meat was greasy enough that this worked actually well!) and I as well skipped the sherry, simply considering I never continue that in my business firm. Every single person in my family liked this dish, and that is saying a lot!!!! They were even requesting that I go far once again this week...which I might do! I served these over noodles, and it was a cheap, tasty, family unit-friendly repast that I will make again and again. Thanks so much for sharing...this is a winner!!!
01/31/2011
v stars all the style! I used basis turkey instead of beef. Didn't have onion or garlic powders, then I used the existent stuff :) My husband didn't look to like it (his words!) from the recipe motion picture, but went back for seconds and said he would similar this on a regular basis! My kids tore it up :)
02/09/2011
This popped up yesterday as the Recipe of the Day every bit I pulled upwardly the site in the hopes of looking for a new turkey cutlet recipe...needless to say I fabricated this instead! Soo happy I did! This recipe is a swell way to use chop meat in a not so wearisome way and the ingredients are things nosotros all have in our pantry, pretty much. The only 2 substitutions I made were soy sauce for the worcestershire and marsala cooking wine for the sherry as I did not have those two in the business firm. I did double the gravy mixture...doubled the flour, beef broth, and marsala to brand more of the gravy as I knew my family would want to smother the rice with it. Always love extra gravy and it tasted fabled so I was sooo happy I doubled it. This is def a keeper for my business firm! Dainty manner to brand something different with chop meat, had the feel of salisbury steaks, deeeeelishh!!
05/12/2006
Excellent!! The gravy this produces (which I doubled) is expert enough to swallow alone in a basin! I couldn't cease sneaking spoonfulls of this gravy! The only thing I volition add together is that even though I tripled the amt. of everything for the gravy (ie, 3 cups of broth) it was yet a bit thick. I fabricated a note to quadruple the broth next time, to thin information technology out just a bit. I served this over oven-roasted potatoes, and information technology was just divine. Also, as a note, I did not have beef goop, so I fabricated homemade broth w/ ONION SOUP MIX, which makes a lovely, savory broth w/ onion season! I highly recommend this route...it adds even more delicious flavor! Endeavour it..I think you volition be delighted with the taste it produces! Thank you, and am planning on making this for visiting relatives in a couple of weeks, as it has now go one of my all-fourth dimension favorite recipes!
02/08/2011
Wonderful
02/03/2010
This is a very skilful recipe. As with all of the recipes from this site, I brand it as written; that way I charge per unit the recipe submitted...non the ane I made and take to take responsibility for the consequence! I was out of ground chuck so I used basis Buffalo. The low fatty content of the meat and deep flavor worked very nice with the gravy. Served it with mashed potato'south and green beans.
06/05/2014
If you change or tweak a recipe and then don't rate information technology! How can y'all be critical of a dish that y'all took liberties with? I volition leave a review if I followed the recipe explicitly and it came out ho-hum...and then and just then will I review it. Most of these recipes are a not bad starting place for a groovy meal to adjust your personal tastes, however, the end result is your personal grade and not the submission's.

Ok i wanted to give this a 4.5 stars just the taste was worth the extra .5!!! AMAZING TASTE! I made the recipe exactly as called for except I did not utilise the sherry (didnt have whatsoever on paw). The only reason I wanted to give a four.5 star was considering the gravy was very little, not enough to cover the patties and rice. Merely now that I think well-nigh it, I didnt substitute anything for the sherry so thats probaby why.. The picayune less than 1 lb of footing beef (.90 to be verbal) fabricated 8 pocket-size patties, which were perfect size for the states. More like a lilliputian bigger than a slider. Served over white rice.... This is comfort nutrient at its finest!

Why bother reviewing a recipe if you change it to a totally unlike recipe? Pointless to give a bad review on a recipe you screwed upward yourself by non following the directions. o.O My family unit really enjoyed this recipe and I take made it several times since I found it. Goes great with homemade mashed potatoes and buttery rolls!
01/27/2011
This was succulent! I made it exactly equally written except that I used chopped shallots in place of the onion powder and chopped fresh garlic instead the garlic pulverisation. I as well quadrupled the gravy (because it's as skillful equally anybody says!) using two cups of beef broth and two cups of Progresso French Onion soup. Fantastic! If you don't make more gravy yous'll wish you lot did. I also used very lean 7% fat ground beef and information technology came out moist and juicy. I browned the hamburgers in olive oil cooking spray rather than vegetable oil. You don't need to cook the hamburgers through because they will finish cooking while simmering in the gravy and exist very moist despite using lower fat meat. Served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes by Kathleen Burton and Sugar Snap Peas past CJCOLLINS. A fantastic meal!
11/01/2005
I would requite it more than stars, just i fabricated a few changes and it didnt turn out so well. HA HA.....So im really not too sure equally to how proficient it could be. Just dont practice what i did. All i had on hand was italian flavored breadstuff crumbs. And i used sweet onions. The gravy so had no savory rich season, information technology was a sweet after taste. And the only thing that i really didnt similar about the recipe was the season salt. Im just not fond of it. Kinda of an artifical taste to me. Other than that, Decent.
01/16/2012
Just similar the good old-fashioned comfort food y'all remember from childhood! I've made this recipe many times now, as information technology'southward a family unit favorite (and volition be dinner tonight also). I agree 100% with the proposition to double, or fifty-fifty triple the gravy so you get enough to smother your mashed potatoes (and your veggie of option). I add a piffling extra worchestershire in place of sherry, which I generally don't have on hand. I utilize a combo of craven/beefiness broth, thus eliminating the actress seasoned table salt. I'm likewise more generous with the garlic/onion powders. I thinly slice two small onions, which seems to be the perfect amount for us. Try as I might, I can never become viii patties, and then I ever brand 6. Served with mashed potatoes and corn, this is hands one of my favorite AR recipes. Easy, yummy, and quick...the perfect combo!
12/06/2011
So happy to finally see a recipe that has real ingredients and not canned soup, gravy mixes and soup mixes.
01/08/2012
Comfort nutrient at it's all-time! Reminded me of a dish you would await in the "olden days." This was very flavorful. The only matter I changed was that I didn't add the sherry (only because I didn't accept any). I added Worcestershire sauce to the beef broth instead of the sherry. I'll probably keep doing it this fashion because I always take Worcestershire sauce and never have sherry. I served this with hot, buttered egg noodles and green beans. Super easy to brand...great weeknight recipe!

Hamburger steak with gravy is a classic Cajun dish here in South Louisiana (really). I use ground circular or even chopped sirloin, mix the ingredients into the meat, and let the patties sit down in the fridge for nigh an hour before cooking. The flavors mix very nicely and the meat firms upwards and doesn't fall apart in the skillet. I ordinarily add together sliced mushrooms, and also sometimes a few tablespoons of tomato sauce, depending on what's left over in the fridge. I don't apply sherry, but I melt with red wine in practically everything -- Cabernet Sauvignon or Marsala -- which works nifty. And I utilise diced fresh garlic because I tin can't bide garlic powder. Comfort Nutrient TIP: Make extra gravy; reheat it and swallow it over a couple slices of French or Italian bread, especially late at night with a bottle of beer!
12/03/2011
I've been making this recipe for years just called it Salisbury Steak, served w/mashed potatoes and a veggie or salad. It'southward a keeper. I wouldn't change i affair! Yummy!
01/31/2006
Great Recipe. I used lean ground beefiness and used Italian Bread crumbs and they came out wonderful. Since I used lean beef I added two Tablespoons of Butter to brand the gravy. I omited the Sherry and used 2 cups of beefiness broth for extra gravy. My Married man loved this recipe. Will make again.
06/07/2006
It was a rainy day hither today, so I was really looking for some condolement food. I came across this recipe and saw all the rave reviews and then I figured I would endeavor information technology. I added minced onion, and parsley to the meat mixture and made into 4 patties instead of 8. I doubled the broth omiting the sherry and added italian seasoning and mushrooms to information technology. The cooking fourth dimension was authentic, however the taste was very bland. The meat was very "meaty" tasting to say the to the lowest degree, and the gravy wasn't that impressive. It tasted like a tv dinner. We actually didn't care for this, and I will exist on the search for a ameliorate recipe. Thank you for sharing.
12/sixteen/2004
Excellent! A very hearty and satisfying dish when coupled with mashed potatoes to put that thick savory gravy on. The only change I fabricated to this superb recipe was to double information technology and I'm glad I did. My whole family loved it and requested nosotros have it over again soon. I'm emailing this one on to my friends and putting it in the front of my recipe box.
01/25/2011
Only change I made was to use matzo meal in lieu of bread crumbs considering it was what I had on paw. Excellent!
09/24/2012
This was delicious. I added mushrooms and I used a little worcestshire in the gravy since I did not have Sherry. My kids and my picky hubby loved it! Nosotros will brand this over again!
08/eighteen/2009
yummmm soo skillful! i used butter instead of oil, nigh 2 tbsp. made 6 burgers. I made the beef broth with a beef boullion cube and hot water. I also mixed the flour with cold milk (well-nigh 1/2 cup) and added information technology after I added the goop. actually REALLY Proficient!
02/02/2010
This is a really tasty hamburger steak. I was really impressed. Lots of flavor and heats up well as left overs for the next day. The second time I made these I did double the gravey part of recipe. Served with mashed potatoes. The kids and hubby honey information technology. Thanks for sharing!
02/14/2011
Very tasty recipe my whole family loved it. Fabricated it co-ordinate to directions. Volition definatley brand this again. Could easily double gravy part though then y'all accept extra for brew potatoes. :-)
xi/28/2011
Made this exactly similar the recipe and information technology was outstanding. Hubby couldn't cease eating. I served information technology with mashers and succotash, just similar the Salisbury steak at Cheesecake Manufactory! I agree with others that it wouldn't hurt to double the gravy. Very tasty!
12/18/2010
This recipe is amazing. It's my husband's favorite dish that I make and he requests it all the time. Also, I've made this recipe for several people and they ever dear it. Many of them said they've never liked hamburger steaks before. I similar to keep this recipe close to the original considering information technology's that good. The only thing i change is that I add together mushrooms and double the gravy and so we can put it on mashed potatoes. Definitely give this recipe a effort!
04/02/2012
wow! what can I say? this was the best recipe I ever used for hamburger steaks. I take fabricated it twice so far and the concluding fourth dimension I served it with chips seasoned with oregano and parmesan cheese (greek way)...and put the brown gravy over the chips (cajun fashion)...and then yummy.. a KEEPER!!!! I used more onions than suggested and i also used ii pounds of ground sirloin so I doubled everything and nevertheless made about 7 to 8 of them
09/xiv/2006
Reminds me of my babyhood when my Mom would brand Salibury steak. I purchased hamburger steak patties, so I didn't use the egg or bread crumbs. I fryed the patties, removed them and fryed the onions, added balance of the ingredients to brand gravy added patties to gravy and spooned gravy over meat, covered and baked in a 300 oven for about 45 minutes. Very tasty, will make over again!
eleven/02/2012
Made this last night and we loved information technology! Made as directed. Loved the sherry in the gravy. I wish I had made more gravy. We look forrard to having this again!
01/06/2011
Yummy. I made minimum changes, mostly out of necessity. Only mostly I made it as is, and it was a satisfying meal. I dredged the patties in flour before frying them. I didn't accept seasoned salt, so I used plain salt in the meat and omitted it in the gravy. No sherry, so I tried the hint of replacing with homemade vanilla excerpt. I doubled the gravy (simply didn't double the extract).
04/28/2011
Everyone in my home ate this and liked information technology. That is nothing short of amazing in my houseold, since by and large at to the lowest degree i person dosen't like something. (wouldn't it exist peachy to please everyone, all the time? ehhhhhhh........) I believe I didn't brand my "steaks" thin enough, after cooking they became sorta rounded. Very yummy!
07/31/2011
This makes the juciest burgers and the gravy was dandy even the next twenty-four hour period. The only thing I saw that it was not salty enough had to add salt at table. I did attempt by adding mushrooms but I won't do that again, it was not equally skillful and don't slice the onions so thin they tend to melt away. But is is probably the commencement Hamburger Steak recipe I have gotten that the meat was non tough and tasteless. Try it you will like it. The red wine is next to be added.
03/26/2011
This was great! The gravy is really the best role. I doubled it, and I all the same desire to make more....it would be adept on a lot of things. I think the quality of your ground beefiness is probably important here. I didn't have cooking sherry or onions so I left those out, and I used regular salt because I don't similar seasoned salt. This is a recipe you can mess with to your liking and nevertheless have the aforementioned basic great thing. I boiled some potatoes in beef broth to go with information technology. Even my picky husband said this tasted like something you would go at a really good restaurant!
12/10/2010
Good Recipe, nevertheless, the sherry in the gravy merely didn't do it for me...I will make this again only I will omit the sherry. Cheers.
12/17/2004
These were fantastic!! I added some mushrooms and served them with hot buttered noodles. The kids absolutely loved them!! Definitely a keeper!!
12/27/2010
Easy, fast, and delicious...keeper!
10/14/2012
I've made this on a couple of occasions and I love it, especially when chilly fall days fix in. I've made it as is with great results, I've doubled it with no issues and I've tweeked it to my particular tastes and each time it comes out nifty! In my nearly recent version, I changed upward the spices a bit and included some smoked paprika and a teeny bit of chili powder and thyme. I also added about a tablespoon of my favorite hot sauce in with the eggs and beat them to mix it all together before adding it to the meat mixture. Rather than adding the onions with the meat to cook, I dice them and add them to the drippings with 8oz. of chopped mushrooms and one-2 tablespoons of butter. Instead of sherry, I used Madiera wine. Increase the flour by l% and later on adding the broth and vino, I add one/ii-3/4 cups of milk. The little bit of extra richness is wonderful.
04/08/2010
My simply modify was I left out the sherry and added sliced fresh mushrooms. My LOVED this! Any fourth dimension I brand an AR recipe and he cleans his plate and asks for 2nds, you get five stars.
11/05/2011
Very good! I doubled the gravy ingredients and added a can of French onion soup and aureate mushroom soup. I also sautéed the onions with a few mushrooms afterwards the meat then added all back to the pot with the gravy. I might add extra seasoning next time - maybe a Montreal steak seasoning or some steak sauce.
02/ten/2011
This was delicious!! I made it every bit written and was impressed with how tasty this dish is. The secret is in the seasoned salt so don't substitute it out. I did use seasoned breadcrumbs and made iv flat patties. It'due south not the prettiest dish only it is ane of the meliorate ones I have made on this site every bit written. It tasted like a really proficient salisbury steak ... the meat was soft and flavorful and the onion gravy was but enough (I did utilise low sodium beef goop). Served with mashed potatoes and veggies ... I will brand this once again without a uncertainty. Thanks Anne Marie, I found a keeper today!
12/04/2011
I concur with Reviewer Flo, information technology is non helpful when people rate the recipe with all of their "changes". I made the recipe every bit it is written and my husband and I enjoyed it very much. The next time I make this I volition double the gravy peculiarly considering nosotros had mashed potatoes as a side with it. Other than that, it was a good easy quick repast and I already had most of the ingredients on paw...only had to purchase the beef and goop :)
02/21/2011
Really adept! Considering of dietary problems I used half ground turkey and half sausage instead of beef merely it turned out just fine. I didn't have sherry so blood-red wine was substituted and I wish I had made double the gravy to drown mashed potatoes, but that will be the adjacent time. Thanks for the recipe - we'll have it over again soon!
12/04/2011
Mmmm. Yummy! Simple and satisfying. My family unit loved it. I added some mushrooms and served with mashed potatoes and peas. Very expert repast and I will definitely make once more and over again!
03/01/2011
Adept recipe. Great with some upgrades. Burgers demand more spice. Mayber some garlic? I needed to add together more flour to make gravy thicker. Definately double the gravy and I would suggest using hamburger with more than ten% fatty for thicker gravy.
05/12/2012
This was a great easy recipe. I mixed 1/2 ground pork and ane/ii ground beef. My onion gravy was a little heavy in onions! And so next time I'll cut the onions back, but other wise I'll be making this again!!
05/20/2011
Mimosa recommended this and I fabricated information technology with venison. My husband LOVED it. I doubled the gravy.
09/11/2014
This is my get to hamburger steak recipe. I fabricated information technology the beginning time with cooking sherry, just it'south not something I keep in my pantry, so I just omit information technology now. Sometimes I as well replace the seasoned salt in the patties with Tony Chachere's original creole seasoning. I love that this recipe is flexible and easily modified! I will continue to use it!
08/21/2006
A cool, rainy day ruined our menu plan of grilled burgers so I gave this recipe a try. It was delicious. I idea I would accept leftovers, merely there wasn't a chip left. I served it with mashed potatoes and green beans. The only modify I made was using homemade chicken stock as I had a lot in my freezer. You would never know, information technology was wonderful!
03/14/2011
Actually overnice hamburger steak. I found this recipe when scouring my pantry for ingredients for dinner. I didn't have breadcrumbs or an egg, then I substituted equal amounts of dry oats and mayo. Worked beautifully. My picky children loved it. I'll endeavour it again with the actual ingredients, and I'm sure it volition be equally delicious. Cheers for a great go-to recipe.
09/09/2006
Need to double the gravy recipe. Needs more vegetable oil. I reduced the table salt mixed with meat to 1/4 tsp. The gravy is exceedingly salty--I reduced the amount of salt for the gravy to 1/viii tsp and it was still too salty. I suppose that was from the sodium in the Worcestershire sauce and broth. I volition not try this recipe again and will become dorsum to using my Salisbury Steak recipe.
03/29/2011
I sure loved this meal! My inlaws ain a dairy farm, then we get unlimited amounts of basis beef and are e'er looking for new ways to serve information technology. These steaks were moist and very flavorful. I didn't have beef broth, then i used craven and it was yummy. Served with taters and veggys information technology was a perfect Sunday meal. My hubby thought they were real packaged steaks (nosotros have some at the farm that kind of look like these...but aren't that good.)
09/14/2006
I've been looking for a "Salisbury Steak" recipe for years and this fits the bill perfectly. I doubled the gravy part of the recipe and then I had plenty to smothered my mashed potatoes with it. The recipe as written makes one cup of gravy and that isn't nearly enough for all that meat. Yummy is all I can say!!!!! Thank you and then much for sharing!
01/04/2013
This dish was simple, and information technology was quick. My whole family unit loved it. Thanks for sharing.
05/20/2011
Made this concluding night and we all loved information technology! I'm not likewise good at making gravy merely only followed the directions and it really turned out well! I pretty much followed the recipe as written except I didn't have seasoned salt so simply added in some garlic powder, and used a LOT of onions in the gravy as we beloved onions! I volition definitely make this again.
08/26/2010
These were so easy to make and delicious. Reminded me of the TV dinner salisbury steaks we had as kids. I didn't have any Worcestershire sauce so I sub'd vinegar and actress garlic salt. Great weeknight repast.
03/24/2011
This is a regular on our table. I commonly triple it. There is plenty of the succulent gravy to serve with garlic mashed potatoes. Fantastic recipe.
08/23/2008
My kids actually liked this one. I followed the recipe for the meat patties merely fabricated some pretty big changes on the gravy. I just couldn't become myself to use hamburger grease as the base for my gravy so here is what I did. I cooked the patties on a stovetop griddle and and then removed to some foil to go along warm. Then I cooked my onions in some other pan in a fleck of olive oil, sprinkling with some seasoning salt, then removed to go along warm. For the gravy I heated together one can of cream of mushroom soup, nearly 1/ii cup beef broth, about 1/2 cup milk, and the sherry. I placed the patties in a large serving dish, topped with the onions and so poured the gravy over the top. Information technology was great! Don't over season the meat. The amounts shown are plenty.
09/x/2006
This was succulent. Fast, like shooting fish in a barrel, tasty! I agree, double the gravy. I substituted chopped garlic and minced onion in steak mixture. Awesome, thanks for the recipe, information technology's a keeper.
x/26/2010
The recipe was excellent; I don't personally care for the texture of the ground beef cooked this way. The flavors were terrific. I might try adapting this with cubed steak or other cut of beef.
09/nineteen/2011
What a groovy recipe!! The just thing I did different was I added lipton onion soup with the beef instead of the other listed spices. Added swell season, My whole family (including my picky 5 year quondam) LOVED it!
09/01/2007
I fabricated this for dinner final nighttime and idea information technology was great. The burgers were perfectly seasoned. I doubled the gravy and left out the sherry. The only thing I would exercise unlike next time would be to saute the onions later removing the patties, instead of all at in one case.
11/22/2010
Can you say "comfort food" at its finest? I initially fabricated this thinking it was something my hubby would enjoy, only I enjoyed it equally as much every bit him. Followed the recipe and served it with mashed potatoes. Side by side time I may double the sauce. Yum!
08/13/2005
Totally disappointed past this recipe. Actually don't empathize why all the high ratings. I had to add together and so many other seasonings to get in edible. Won't be making again.
12/09/2007
This really went over well for Dominicus dinner. I followed the recipe to a T except for I didn't have whatever sherry (and nosotros don't similar it anyway) so I subbed in Maggi seasoning. I also cooked the onions after I cooked the patties. Side by side time I will follow the others communication and double the gravy as information technology is delicious. Thank you for a groovy old-fashioned, homestyle recipe, we definitely volition be using this one oft. PS. Husband said patties would be good on their own every bit bootleg hamburgers besides.
03/12/2011
I followed this recipe as it was written and thought it was just ok. My married man thought information technology was skilful merely nix special and I concur. Probably won't exist making this 1 once more.
04/01/2011
Tastes like meatloaf in a fraction of the time!!! Thanks.
08/12/2011
I LOVE these hamburger steaks. Cook em with double gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn and information technology's just like my favorite tv dinner, only homemade and a meg times better!
03/09/2015
Non for me. Not enough gravy for the mashed potatoes . Gravy too thick. Did not like the taste of the gravy. Hamburger steaks were bland. Followed recipe exactly. Won't make this again
03/08/2011
Everyone liked it. My iii youngest, pickiest eaters loved it. I had to substitute chicken goop for the beef broth since it was all I had.
04/28/2006
Excellent recipe! Thank you so much! I agree that the cooking sherry makes this recipe!
12/03/2011
Annotation: Serve this in a bowl over rice, meridian it with a fried(sunny side upwards or piece of cake over) and you have a Hawaiian "Loco Moco." Comfort food!
12/16/2010
What a swell recipe. I didn't utilise any sherry but other than that I followed equally written. Served with Savory Herb Rice from this site and it was a great repast!
06/24/2011
I made this for my dad (I don't like hamburger steak) and he said "make sure you hang on to that recipe". So I estimate this is a keeper!
11/10/2011
This was admittedly wonderful. Information technology was besides really like shooting fish in a barrel!! I actually loved the gravy. The only thing I did different was I added about ii cloves minced garlic to the onions. Side by side time I will use more onions though. Thank you for the recipe!!
11/18/2005
YUM, comfort food at it's best. My boyfriend said it was definetly restaurant quality. I added sliced fresh mushrooms forth with the onions... I will use more than onions next time as well. For the gravy, I used Full-bodied beefiness broth, only I used a full loving cup of it. I recall that's what fabricated my gravy sooo savory and tasty. Likewise, I added a dash of red vino instead of the sherry, and also a dash of milk to brand it a niggling flossy. This is definetly a very very quick and easy recipie that is delicious!
03/14/2011

pretty close to the mode gram ma made this no sherry was used to expensive. Mashed potatoes is what we all ways had. This Dish was made back years ago because it cheap and filling. Of course Hamburger back then was .39 cents a Lb. sometimes less.

Wow! We LOVE this and will never buy packaged or jarred gravy again...y'all tin can sub a little red wine vinegar for the sherry and added fresh mushrooms as information technology simmered. I've as well prepared this gravy using the spices with the leftover juice from a crockpot pot roast, which we accept twice a month.

I gave this recipe 5 stars fifty-fifty though I did make a couple small changes. I made my ain fresh bread crumbs & didn't use the sherry or seasoned salt in the gravy. I did however brand the patties as written. I also doubled the flour & broth for more gravy. Information technology was a hit with my son, so this one'due south a keeper!

Really good comfort food that I remember eating when I was a kid. I used extra lean beef, so this ended up existence quite good for you. I served information technology with sauteed kale and sweet potatoes. I volition make this again whenever I want a blast from the past!

I substituted A1 Bold Steak Sauce for the Worchestershire Sauce every bit I did not accept it on hand. I doubled the gravy fixins and added a modest tin can of sliced mushrooms-personal preference. MOIST AND Succulent. This recipe can exist prepared early in the day, but prior to serving you will have to add together a lilliputian water to the gravy to get the consistency you want. Hamburger patties remained moist and flavorful.

I call back this is a very good recipe, simply was a tad banal for our taste. I had to increase the seasonings and added some sliced mushrooms. However, I will keep this in my repertoire because it's easy, inexpensive, and uses ingredients normally on hand. I put the patties in the fridge for nigh 30 minutes to help them hold together during cooking--didn't accept whatever issues with breakage. Thanks for sharing!

Delicious! Such a homestyle meal, tasted like something my grandma would make. I merely made six patties instead of 8. I cooked up about a cup of bowtie pasta and stirred it into the gravy at the end. Turned out great.

This was awesome!! My hubby even liked it and he hates cooked onions. I am with Naples on a few things. 1. The patties were small as 8, 6 would take been better. 2. Cooking the onions carve up is a MUST but I did them subsequently the meat in lodge to go the flavor and the bits. 3. I did utilise flour this time but I volition use corn starch side by side time. And in that location will well-nigh definitely be a next time. I too didnt accept any sherry then I use more than Worcestershire sauce instead. This is definitely going to be in my favorite recipes rotation. Thanks Anne

Easy and proficient. I didn't change a thing. I would make this again, but I might modify a few things, similar add together mushrooms and maybe a little onion in the patties...Information technology's definatly a get-go to a great recipe.

I have to admit that I increment my sauce proportions with more beef bouillon and sherry, but otherwise I keep it the same. My daughter never tires of this dish!
