Trivia
- Appletun and Flapple are the only Pokémon to accept physically identical Gigantamax forms, although they are even so treated every bit different Pokémon as they have distinct Pokédex entries, G-Max Moves, and cries.
- This is likewise the simply instance of two different species of Pokémon that can be physically identical without the use of Transform, Imposter, or Illusion.
- Appletun and its evolutionary family unit are the but Pokémon that are in the Grass and Dragon Egg Groups.
Origin
Appletun may be based on Ladon, a dragon from Greek mythology that guards the golden apples in the Garden of the Hesperides. It may also draw inspiration from the biblical serpents, sometimes referred to as dragons, one of which persuades Eve to eat from the forbidden fruit of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil, most of the times depicted equally an apple. Appletun may also be based on the tale of Bel and the Dragon, near a dragon that bursts open up after being fed a cake. It may besides be inspired past apple pies and tortoises. Its Gigantamax grade appears to exist based on a caramel apple.
Flapple and Appletun having identical Gigantamax forms may be a reference to convergent evolution, which can lead to separate organisms independently developing identical characteristics and body plans.
Name origin
Appletun may be derived from Appleton, a toponym that ways "an orchard" or "place where apples grow". Appletun may also exist a combination of apple and ton (referencing its bulk). It may also exist a play on apple tree turnover or under.
Tarupple may be a combination of tart, 怠い tarui (sluggish), たっぷり tappuri (onomatopoetic word for plenty), and apple.
