Appletun (Japanese: タルップル Tarupple) is a dual-blazon Grass/Dragon Pokémon introduced in Generation Eight.

It evolves from Applin when exposed to a Sugariness Apple tree. It is one of Applin's final forms, the other beingness Flapple.

Appletun has a Gigantamax form.

Biological science

Appletun is a dragon-like Pokémon inhabiting a trunk reminiscent of apple pie. Its body is mostly dark-green with a yellow underside and lower jaw, and has an orange spot on its chest that resembles an apple cadre[1]. Information technology has a piece of an apple on its head worn as a helmet. Its optics usually droop down from nether the apple tree helmet as though they were ears, but may be lifted up to reveal leaf-like eyestalks holding small beady eyes. It has black slits for nostrils on the tip of its cage. It has a big hump on its dorsum with a several overlapping stripes that resemble an apple pie's crust. It has cherry and green leaves on the top of its pie-like back. It has brusk, bulky legs with paws, and a stout tail.

Appletun produces a nectar-like scent which attracts Bug-blazon Pokémon, which it preys on. Its body is caked in sweet nectar, which gets thicker when exposed to Gigantamax energy. The skin on is dorsum is said to be tasty, and children used to eat information technology as a snack.

When Appletun gets exposed to Gigantamax energy, information technology changes into the shape of a behemothic apple tree with a green dragon-similar Pokémon inside. Its foliage-similar eyestalks stand up upward straight and it has the height of the apple tree on its head with xanthous carvings on the apple resembling nostrils. Its previously stout tail is elongated and wraps around the base of the apple. The Pokémon has rounded cheeks and hangs its mouth open up letting a red natural language hang out of its rima oris. Three red clouds bladder around the neck.

The sweetness nectar that covers its trunk increases in thickness, allowing it to blot more than impairment than normal. Information technology tin can shoot out nectar, enough to exist able drown its opponents in the blast of nectar.

Appletun is the only known Pokémon capable of using the move Apple tree Acid and the exclusive 1000-Max Move G-Max Sweet.

Trivia

  • Appletun and Flapple are the only Pokémon to accept physically identical Gigantamax forms, although they are even so treated every bit different Pokémon as they have distinct Pokédex entries, G-Max Moves, and cries.
    • This is likewise the simply instance of two different species of Pokémon that can be physically identical without the use of Transform, Imposter, or Illusion.
  • Appletun and its evolutionary family unit are the but Pokémon that are in the Grass and Dragon Egg Groups.

Origin

Appletun may be based on Ladon, a dragon from Greek mythology that guards the golden apples in the Garden of the Hesperides. It may also draw inspiration from the biblical serpents, sometimes referred to as dragons, one of which persuades Eve to eat from the forbidden fruit of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil, most of the times depicted equally an apple. Appletun may also be based on the tale of Bel and the Dragon, near a dragon that bursts open up after being fed a cake. It may besides be inspired past apple pies and tortoises. Its Gigantamax grade appears to exist based on a caramel apple.

Flapple and Appletun having identical Gigantamax forms may be a reference to convergent evolution, which can lead to separate organisms independently developing identical characteristics and body plans.

Name origin

Appletun may be derived from Appleton, a toponym that ways "an orchard" or "place where apples grow". Appletun may also exist a combination of apple and ton (referencing its bulk). It may also exist a play on apple tree turnover or under.

Tarupple may be a combination of tart, 怠い tarui (sluggish), たっぷり tappuri (onomatopoetic word for plenty), and apple.
